Download Episode 302 part II!

ACTION COMICS 299, April 1963, was published on February 28, 1963. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of 12¢. The editor was Mort Weisinger, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by George Klein. It featured the Supergirl story in the back of the issue, and was her 9th appearance on the cover of ACTION, and 10th including her solo appearance on the cover of Superman (I misspoke and said that it was her 14th cover appearance, misreading my checklist).

- The 13 page Superman story in this issue was titled, THE STORY OF SUPERMAN'S EXPERIMENTAL ROBOTS, written by Jerry Siegel and drawn by Al Plastino. This story has also been reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERMAN vol. IV. It was also Siegel's 45th silver age Superman story, and his 137th overall for the era. Previously he wrote, THE HELMET OF HATE for SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN 68, April 1963, which was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by George Klein.

- The 12 page Supergirl story was titled, THE FANTASTIC SECRET OF SUPERBABY II, written by Leo Dorfman and drawn by Jim Mooney. This story was also reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERGIRL vol. II.

Elsewhere in DC Comics, 29 titles carried the April or April/may 1963 cover date, according to Mike's Amazing World Of Comics.

Also highlighted in this episode are the ads and other features in this issue, including the METROPOLIS MAILBAG letter column!

The next two episodes will feature the Superman Family comic books cover dated July 1960, Part I: SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE 18, and Part II: SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN 48!

Then we will return to the Superman comic books cover dated May 1963, Part I: SUPERMAN 161, and Part II: ACTION COMICS 300!

SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE 17, May 1960, was published on March 24, 1960. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of a dime. Mort Weisinger was the editor, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Stan Kaye. It featured the issue's second story. All three stories have been reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERMAN FAMILY VOL. IV.

- THE GIRL THAT ALMOST MARRIED CLARK KENT (9 pgs.), writer is unknown according to Mike's Amazing World Of DC Comics and comicbookdb.com, but the Grand Comic Book Database credits Robert Bernstein as the writer. All sources agree on the artist, the classic Lois Lane artist Kurt Schaffenberger.

- LANA LANG, SUPERWOMAN (9 pgs.), writer unknown according to Mike's Amazing World Of DC Comics, but Jerry Siegel was credited as the writer, according to the Grand Comic Book Database and comicbookdb.com. Because there is some discrepancy about the writer credit, I won't credit this story toward Jerry Siegel's total of silver age stories. This story was also reprinted in 80 PG. GIANT #3 (1964, published with the DC comic books cover dated September 1964, and had the cover price of a quarter.

- HOW LOIS LANE GOT HER JOB (8 pgs.), was written by Otto Binder and drawn by Kurt Schaffenberger. The subtitle for this story was THE FIRST UNTOLD STORY OF LOIS LANE. It has also been reprinted in SUPERMAN: DAILY PLANET.

Also highlighted in this episode are the issue's ads and other features, including the LETTERS TO LOIS column.

Elsewhere in DC Comics, 28 titles carried the May or May/June 1960 cover date, which were covered back in Episode 213, for the week of January 11, 2013.

The next issues featured will be the Superman comic books cover dated April 1963. Part I will highlight SUPERMAN 160 and Part II will focus on ACTION COMICS 299!

Then we will return to the Superman Family comic books cover dated June 1960: Part I featuring SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN 45, and Part II: WORLD'S FINEST COMICS 110!

- The 12 page Superman / Batman story was titled, THE BEWITCHED BATMAN, written by Jerry Coleman. This story has been reprinted in BATMAN ANNUAL 5 (1963), WORLD'S FINEST ARCHIVES vol. III, SHOWCASE PRESENTS: WORLD'S FINEST vol. I and BATMAN ANNUALS vol. II (2010). Download Eoislde 299 Part I!

SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE 16, April 1960, was published on February 9, 1960. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of 10¢. Mort Weisinger was the editor, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Stan Kaye, featuring this issue's third and final story. All three nine page stories were drawn by classic Lois Lane artist Kurt Schaffenberger, and have been reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERMAN FAMILY vol. III.

- LOIS LANE'S SIGNAL WATCH, writer unknown, according to Mike's Amazing World Of DC Comics and Comic Book Database, while the Grand Comic Book Database lists the author as possibly Jerry Siegel. Since there is some disagreement on the writer credit for this story, I won't add it to Jerry Siegel's total for his silver age career.

- THE MYSTERY OF SKULL ISLAND, again, writer unknown according to Mike's Amazing World Of DC Comics and the Comic Book Database.com, while the Grand Comic Book Database credits Robert Bernstein as the author.

- THE KRYPTONITE GIRL, according to Mike's Amazing World Of DC Comics and Comic Book Database.com, the writer is unknown, while the Grand Comic Book Database lists Jerry Siegel as the writer. Since there is some disagreement about the author of this story, I'll also not add this credit to Jerry Siegel's silver age comic book career.

Also highlighted in this episode are the issue's ads and other features, including the LETTERS TO LOIS column.
